Won't my child get hysterical with a total stranger?

We have found the opposite to be true. Children never behave as badly with a total stranger as they do with their own parents. We thereby manage to keep the hysterical behaviour to a minimum.

What should the temperature of the baby's bedroom be?

We have found that most people sleep better in the cold and therefore you should never ever heat the child's room. The optimal temperature that we recommend is 18-19 degrees Celsius.

What about dummies?

We like dummies. The reason why we use a dummy is to help the child to self-soothe when they are teething. We therefore recommend that the dummy be put on a dummy chain twenty-four hours a day so that the child knows where to find it.

When can we start sleep-training?

We do not like to start training before 6 months. The first four months of your  baby's life we suggest that you hold and cuddle him/her as much as possible. Babies develop trust and good self-esteem by being held, loved and nurtured in the first four months. I believe that life is hard and if we do not spoil our children while they are small, nobody ever will.

My child is two years old and ready to go into a bed. Is it too late to start sleep training now?

No, not at all. We have had great success training children up to five years, but the parents find it more challenging after two years as most of them can talk and call your name. We use different trainers and a slightly different technique for older children with the emphasis shifting to negotiation and the implementation of boundaries.

Will the sleep routine be affected by illness and teething?

Yes, no child in pain can self-soothe effectively. We train the parents and teach them the technique, so that when your child gets sick, you know how to get back on track. I normally suggest that you treat the symptoms so that the baby can be as comfortable and pain-free as possible. If in doubt, you are very welcome to phone us.
